Good on them !!
It always thrills me to witness this enjoyment .
They said that they were from Paso Robles Ca .
The weather was beautiful !
I wish I had asked their names  .

Mistaken Identity of animals on the trail

Strange and Funny Occurrences
on
Cerro Altos

6-25-15
I enjoyed a hike with my dog Sierra and late in the day Sierra was hiking approximately
20 yards ahead of me . She just walked around a switchback and was momentarily out of sight
when I heard a girl scream . As I rounded the switch I encountered two girls , one of them said  " I thought your dog was a bear . "  Note that my dog was wearing a backpack as she does daily .
Note worthy is an incident that occurred earlier this year , also on Cerro Alto , I was hiking with my dog Sierra who was wearing a backpack . She rounded a switch back about 20 yards ahead of me when I heard a Young man scream as I came in contact with him I asked if he was OK as he was still waving his arms in the air . He calmed down and  apologized  saying he thought the dog was a
mountain lion . I asked if he really thought a lion would wear a backpack ?
he laughed and moved on his way .

What do you think ?
Below is Sierra and  ??

Cerro Alto weather

Cerro Alto
Heat Advisory on Cerro Alto

I hike Cerro Alto daily , and for the last three days
we have had a heat wave . It's that time of the year .
4:30 pm in the shade was 85 and 100 degrees on the
exposed last mile of the summit .
Dogs need water ! Sierra weighs 76 lbs.
She drinks 30 oz. of water on the hike of Cerro
in this heat .
I have seen many dogs yearly get sick in the heat .
Dog heat stroke is ugly , vomiting , diarrhea ,
and even death !
I have seen one dog die .

Please carry enough water for the dog .
Another tip --- dogs new to this enviroment and with thin pads will suffer
damage to their feet fast so please check their pads often .
